The EOSC Federation is evolving towards a distributed ecosystem of autonomous EOSC Nodes interconnected through common Federating Capabilities. While identity and catalogue federation provide essential foundations, additional architectural developments are required to fully support cross-node collaboration and access to distributed resources. This paper analyses the current EOSC Federation architecture and identifies key evolution paths, including the introduction of additional Federating Capabilities, increased actionability, reduced dependencies on central components, and more distributed federation models. Building on the work of the EOSC Beyond project, the paper outlines a vision for a more scalable, interoperable, and resilient EOSC Federation.
