Abstract Africa is experiencing an increasing prevalence of dementia, a situation compounded by inadequately resourced health care systems. E-health and mobile Health (MHealth) technologies present promising avenues for addressing this challenge. Initially, telemedicine facilitated connections between patients and specialists, and subsequently evolved into mHealth for data collection and management. These technologies now play a pivotal role in dementia care by enabling remote consultation, cognitive assessment, and caregiver support. MHealth applications are instrumental in tracking symptoms, ensuring medication adherence, and providing cognitive exercise. The prospective integration of artificial intelligence and machine learning offers the potential for precise diagnostics, tailored care plans, and predictive models of disease progression. Nonetheless, challenges persist, including inconsistent internet access, limited digital literacy, and concerns regarding data privacy. Addressing these issues is crucial for successful implementation. E-health and mHealth have the capacity to transform dementia care in Africa by expanding access, promoting early diagnosis, and facilitating personalized treatment options.
