AbstractTemporomandibular Disorders (TMDs) are a group of musculoskeletal conditions affecting the temporomandibular joint, masticatory muscles, and associated craniofacialstructures. The relationship between dental occlusion and TMD has long been debated in dental literature. Earlier theories suggested that occlusal discrepancies were the primary cause of TMD; however, current evidence indicates that these disorders have a multifactorial etiology involving biological, psychological, and behavioral factors. A review of literature from databases such as PubMed and Google Scholar suggests that occlusal discrepancies alone rarely cause TMD but may contribute to symptom aggravation in susceptible individuals. Understanding the multifactorial nature of TMD is essential for accurate diagnosis and effective management.
