Abstract The article focuses on management accounting pioneer and scholar Bob Anthony. Anthony was born in Orange, Massachusetts and attended Colby College, where he received his AB degree in 1938. He received his MBA from the Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration in 1940, and his DCS In 1952. He joined the Harvard faculty in 1940 and held an appointment there until 1983 except for service in the U.S. Navy between 1941 and 1946 and as Assistant Secretary of Defense between 1965 and 1968. Anthony returned to teaching after his military service to join the faculty at Harvard who was revising the required course in accounting in the MBA Program. Their idea was to focus on accounting for the managers of a company. As there was no text available, the task of preparing case studies, problems, and notes for the course was assigned to Anthony. Anthony has been an active member of the American Accounting Association as well as almost every other professional accounting organization.
