Abstract Accounting Departments at 222 AACSB-accredited schools were surveyed to determine If they had accounting honors programs. Only 11 schools had honors programs specifically for accounting majors. Written materials from these programs were reviewed and telephone interviews with program directors were conducted. Detailed descriptions of the six “full” programs (ones requiring students to complete a majority of their accounting courses as honors courses) and the five “partial” programs are presented. Benefits and problems of honors programs are discussed, and suggestions to follow in starting an honors program are offered.
