Abstract The case introduces students to the legal and ethical issues related to software piracy. The case is written from a sociological perspective where the students must assume the roles of different individuals in different organizations that are affected by software piracy and also in society as it is affected by the same behavior. Role playing allows students to identify and understand the impact of their actions on others. A discussion of the legal issues and costs of software piracy is also included.
