George Rothblat, a pioneer in cholesterol and lipoprotein metabolism research, died on February 27, 2026, at the age of 90. Dr Rothblat spent his career in Philadelphia and was a founding member of the so-called Philadelphia Lipid Research Group (1). He was a beloved mentor and colleague to many scientists in the lipid field, including the authors of this tribute. In preparing this essay, comments were solicited from more than 20 colleagues and trainees of Dr Rothblat (listed in the appendix).
