Character education is a fundamental pillar in education to navigate global challenges and moral degradation. Within this context, Indonesian language and literature education plays a strategic role beyond the mere transfer of linguistic skills. This systematic literature review aims to examine and synthesize the role of Indonesian language education in shaping student character. Following the PRISMA guidelines, a search of the Scopus database yielded 1,240 documents. After rigorous screening based on inclusion criteria, 31 peer-reviewed articles published between 2015 and 2026 were selected for qualitative thematic analysis. The synthesis reveals three primary domains of character integration: the embedment of moral values in curriculum designs, the application of contemporary pedagogical strategies and digital innovation, and the utilization of literary appreciation and local wisdom as moral anchors. Furthermore, the internationalization of national character is evident through the Indonesian for Speakers of Other Languages program. The findings confirm that Indonesian language learning serves as a critical catalyst for internalizing ethical values, social piety, and a resilient national identity aligned with the Pancasila Student Profile. This study highlights the necessity of synergizing cultural preservation.
