Abstract Information and communication technologies (ICTs) seem to have become the current driving force in newspaper publishing. This paper examines the extent to which newspaper workers in Nigeria use ICTs in their job performance. It seeks to determine if ICTs use serves as a strong catalyst for job motivation among the newspaper workers. The population of the study covered 4,698 staff in the national general interest newspaper houses in the country. A sample of 2,797 was selected from the population. The study used survey method and used questionnaire as the instrument of data gathering. The results show that that there is a high level of ICT usage by newspaper workers in Nigeria; job motivation among them is low; ICTs use does not serve as a strong catalyst for job motivation among the newspaper workers. Management of newspaper houses should provide adequate ICT and ICT training for the staff. Additionally, management should provide sufficient motivational factors for the workers in order to increase their level of job motivation.
