This analysis examines the 2023 selection procedures for the career advancement of technologists at the CNR (National Research Council), highlighting the transition from bibliometric systems to new European qualitative standards. The selection process was structured around a 100-point scale, divided among the evaluation of the professional curriculum, seniority, and a final interview. The study highlights how ten different committees interpreted their evaluative autonomy, applying heterogeneous criteria based on the various scientific sectors. While some fields adopted purely qualitative models focused on organizational impact, others maintained indicators linked to citations and journal prestige. In summary, the document illustrates the administrative and methodological complexities of defining a technologist's professional value during a reform phase in research assessment.
