Abstract Environmental pollution is a significant global challenge that profoundly impacts public health and biodiversity. India experiences a high incidence of morbidity and mortality due to environmental pollution. Modern approaches to pollution control often fall short of addressing these issues in a sustainable manner. This review examines Ayurvedic principles and traditional ecological knowledge as potential sustainable solutions to pollution control. It aims to provide a framework for integrating Ayurvedic practices into modern environmental policies. A comprehensive review of classical Ayurvedic texts, traditional ecological practices, and modern scientific studies was conducted. Literature on environmental pollution and the role of medicinal plants and traditional medicine in mitigating the pollution menace was explored to contextualize the need for sustainable interventions. Ayurveda offers effective remedies, including herbal bioremediation, plant-based air purification, detoxification therapies, rejuvenation interventions, and eco-friendly agricultural practices. These approaches address both the causes and health impacts of environmental pollution. Ayurveda can play a crucial role in combating pollution in a sustainable manner. Integrating these practices into public policy and awareness programs could significantly mitigate pollution and its adverse effects globally.
