Guapira Aubl. (Nyctaginaceae, Pisonieae) comprises dioecious shrubs and trees widely distributed in the Neotropics and occupying diverse habitats. In the Brazilian Cerrado, the genus occurs in several phytophysiognomies, including Campos Rupestres , a montane rock ecosystem with high levels of endemism but still marked by significant gaps in botanical knowledge. The northern portion of the Espinhaço Range in Minas Gerais in Brazil is one such poorly explored region, despite recent floristic efforts and numerous new species discoveries. Here, we describe a new species of Guapira endemic to Campos Rupestres of the Espinhaço Range based on morphological evidence. The species is illustrated with a detailed morphology plate and habitat photographs, and we provide taxonomic comments, a distribution map, and a preliminary conservation assessment.
