Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative technology across the world. The field of sports is no exception. The combination of AI into sports activities has enabled unique advancements in performance analysis, injury prevention, game strategy optimization, fan engagement, and even talent identification. Historically, sporting activities relied heavily on human expertise as coaches evaluated player performance, analysts studied game footage manually, and fans engaged with static statistics. However, with the rapid development of AI techniques, such as machine learning (ML), deep learning (DL), and computer vision, sports organizations are able to collect, analyze, and interpret data at scales never previously possible. AI’s capacity to extract meaningful insights from massive datasets has improved decision making processes and enhanced competitive advantages for athletes and teams alike.
