Abstract

Presented on 20 May 2026: Session 22 Following events with the Northern Endeavour and the subsequent Australian Government Walker Review, Australia’s offshore decommissioning legislative and regulatory reform has ramped up. Australian Energy Producers has advocated for key reform initiatives with the Australian Government in the areas of decommissioning financial assurance, property management, and information sharing and reporting. This paper will detail the key elements of this reform journey and provide insights into critical decommissioning policy issues, many of which are yet to be resolved.
