This interview is a part of the “Punjabi in BC” oral history project (2019-2023). “Punjabi in BC” is comprised of interviews with over 50 K-12 teachers, language advocates, journalists, and writers who have contributed to the life of the Punjabi language in British Columbia, Canada. The subject of this interview, Amrit Diwana, is a poet who began his career in journalism after completing his education. After moving to Canada, he has authored four books focusing on the struggles of farmers and the Dalit community. This interview with Amrit Diwana is divided into two segments and includes two promotional videos. In the interview, Amrit Diwana discusses his career, his journey towards writing about societal struggles, and the presence of a Punjabi culture in Canada. He also compares lives in Canada and India, detailing the hardships encountered.
