This report presents the results of a heritage impact assessment that was carried out by South West Archaeology Ltd. (SWARCH) prior to the construction of an ancillary building (shed) on land associated with Old Boswarthen Farmhouse and The Old Piggery, Boswarthen, Madron, Cornwall. The work was carried out in accordance with the relevant guidance and in line with the SWARCH HIA methodology. The development is situated on an area of ground that is partly shown as a narrow enclosed strip that provides access to the field to the north from the late 19th century. The boundaries in this area appear to have been reconfigured sometime after the tithe survey. The ground in this area may have been terraced at/by this time. The development is constructed partly on posts. The small scale of the project, and the limited extent of the groundworks, means that the potential for encountering any archaeological deposits would have been low. There are a number of designated heritage assets (Grade II Listed Buildings) within the nearby settlement, though the indirect impact of the development is considered to be negligible and it will eventually blend further into its setting which will further reduce its visibility.
