This paper analyses the methods of spatial composition of classroom in seven large scale junior and senior high schools in Japan. Consideration was given through an analysis of subgroups, grade groups and places for students. The following four characteristic methods were extracted. 1) The use of subgroups in the formation of HR groups. 2) A large plan with an atrium for the formation of middle and high school cohesion. 3) Combination of atrium and places to link classroom groups and other groups. 4) Nested multiple scales of places to accommodate groups of different scales.
