An archaeological evaluation was undertaken on land at the site of the proposed Kirkwall Care Campus, located adjacent to New Scapa Road, Kirkwall. Ten machine excavated trenches were opened that targeted a series of anomalies identified by geophysical survey. The evaluation revealed a high level of archaeological activity within the western aspect of the site. Structural remains of walls and other evidence was identified that indicated that the area was a multi-phased occupation/settlements site used during both the Neolithic and Iron Age. Other geophysical anomalies were identified as Post-medieval and Modern features as well as being geological or pedological in origin.
