Six archaeological trial trenches were excavated across the c.1.6ha Haul Road route (Phase 1) associated with a proposed quarry development. A low density and low complexity of ditches and probable tree holes / throws was distributed across the evaluated area. While most recorded features were undated, some are inferred to be of medieval or post-medieval to modern date and to relate to past agricultural land use. Two ditch-like features evidently correlated with the furrow-like geophysical anomalies and are considered to relate to medieval or later strip cultivation.
