This article investigates the strategic direction of India’s Arctic policy, highlighting the growing relevance of the region for long-term foreign policy planning. The research explores how the erosion of the concept of ‘Arctic exceptionalism’ have opened new channels for the participation of non-Arctic states. Within this context, the article focuses on India’s engagement through cooperation with Russia, emphasising Russia’s recent Arctic policy recalibration. The analysis demonstrates that India’s approach to the Arctic has progressed from a primarily scientific orientation towards a strategic agenda. The article concludes that cooperation with Russia may become a crucial catalyst for deepening India’s Arctic presence.
