Background: Antibiotic resistance (ABR) is a natural phenomenon where microorganisms develop resistance to the harmful effects of medications. In Latin America and the Caribbean, ABR has garnered significant interest, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, due to heterogeneous factors that predispose to high ABR rates. Methods: A bibliometric study was conducted using the Web of Science database. Bibliometric indicators were calculated using the bibliometrix package in R, and network analyses were performed using VOSviewer. Results: Three thousand six hundred two articles were identified, with an annual growth rate of 31.65%. Brazil led with 1577 articles (43.8%), followed by Mexico (12%). The most productive authors were Nilton Lincopan (59 articles) and Ana Cristina Gales (39 articles). The Brazilian Journal of Microbiology published the most articles (133 articles). The University of São Paulo was the most productive institution (537 articles). The most cited article was by Hendriksen et al (2019) with 682 citations. Keyword analysis revealed that the most notable bacteria were Escherichia coli and Enterobacteriaceae, other common themes were genes, plasmid, epidemiology, and outbreak. The most recent keywords appear to be colistin resistance, polymyxins. Conclusion: Scientific production on ABR in Latin America has increased, led by Brazil and Mexico. However, significant gaps persist in research capacity and policy implementation in other countries, hindering effective regional strategies. Efforts must prioritize equity in knowledge dissemination and international collaboration to translate evidence into interventions that reduce resistance-related mortality.
