Resonance – Biology and Emergence extends the resonance substrate ontology introduced in the Resonance – Core Framework and formalized in the Resonance – Physics Model into the domain of living systems. The paper proposes that life is a coherent resonance system that maintains itself through recursive regulation of resonance density (pr), resonance pressure (Pr), and resonance tension (T) across nested biological scales. As stated in the text, “Life is coherence that maintains itself through recursive regulation of pr, Pr, and T.” Cell membranes are interpreted as biological identity boundaries analogous to the resonance veil of a universe; metabolism as the regulation of resonance pressure; cellular stress as resonance tension accumulation; neural systems as recursive resonance networks; and multicellular organisms as nested coherence identities. Evolution is framed as resonance selecting configurations that maintain coherence under tension and pressure, situated carefully relative to neutral theory and debates about complexity. The paper engages established biological frameworks — autopoiesis (Maturana & Varela), tensegrity (Ingber), major evolutionary transitions (Maynard Smith & Szathmáry), and the hallmarks of aging — and distinguishes them from the substrate interpretation. It proposes that biological phenomena are not exceptions to physics but recursive expressions of the same substrate dynamics that govern physical systems.
