IntroductIonToothbrushing is the most widely recommended method for maintaining oral hygiene and preventing plaque-related diseases such as dental caries and periodontal disease. 1 Twice-daily brushing with fluoridated toothpaste for at least 2 minutes is endorsed by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD), European Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (EAPD), and other professional organisations. 2 Research also shows that children who brush more frequently and for longer durations (e.g., twice a day for 2 minutes) tend to have lower caries prevalence compared to those who brush less often or for shorter periods. 3espite strong evidence supporting this simple measure, dental caries remains one of the most prevalent chronic diseases worldwide. 4In India, the prevalence is 54.16%, with higher rates in mixed dentition (58%) and certain regions such as western India (72%). 5The disease burden is greater among socioeconomically disadvantaged groups, and untreated caries can impair growth, school performance, and quality of life.
