The article presents the results of the breeding work stage (2023-2025) at Institute of Agrobiotechnology named after A.V.Zhuravskiy of Komi Scientific Center of Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Komi Republic). Four potato hybrids (2971-39 Oksaniya × Gala, 2984-17 Bellaroza × Gala, 2984-50 Bellaroza × Gala and 2474-17 Pomdor × Gala) hybridized by A.G.Lorkh Federal Research Center were studied in a competitive trial with three zoned standard varieties from different maturity groups in I “Northern” approval region: mid-season Aurora, mid-early Nevskiy and the early Snegir. The aim of the study was to select hybrids with high potential for developing table potato varieties with specified yield and tuber quality. The scientific novelty lies in the comprehensive evaluation of four new hybrid combinations obtained using Gala variety under the extreme soil and climatic conditions of the North, which will expand the genetic diversity of the adapted material for targeted breeding for productivity and quality. It was established that among the submitted samples considered for further environmental testing with subsequent transfer to state variety testing and variety registration, numbers 2971-39, 2984-50 and 2474-17 stood out with tuber yields of 48.5-58.7 t/ha, exceeding mid-season standard variety Aurora by 17.0-27.2 t/ha, mid-early variety Nevskiy by 23.9-34.1 t/ha and the early variety Snegir by 23.3-33.5 t/ha. The starch content in the tubers of hybrids amounted to 12.4-16.6%, which is reliably higher by 2.7-3.9 percentage points than the control variants. The variety samples are capable of forming an average of 17 to 22 marketable tubers in the weather and climatic conditions of the Komi Republic. Hybrids, and eventually potato varieties, can be used as valuable source material for continuing the institute’s breeding program and addressing food security issues in the northern regions of the Russian Federation.
