Financial services firms increasingly seek to distribute insurance, credit, payments, banking and wealth products through non-financial businesses that already hold a trusted customer relationship at a relevant moment. Practitioner guidance for selecting such partners commonly ranks candidates by the size of their customer base, a proxy that overlooks where in the customer journey a financial need actually arises and how that need interacts with the economics of a specific financial product. This paper develops a conceptual framework that separates a common strategic logic, covering ecosystem quality, journey timing, product fit, commercial potential, capability complementarity and execution feasibility, from the industry specific logic required to apply that structure consistently across insurance, lending, payments, banking and wealth management. Drawing on the resource-based view, the alliance and strategic fit literature, ecosystem strategy and the customer experience literature, the paper argues that partner attractiveness depends on proximity to a financial trigger point rather than audience scale alone. A cross-industry comparison table, a trigger taxonomy and an illustrative partner prioritisation tool apply the framework to publicly documented examples. The contribution is an integrative, industry differentiated evaluation logic that, to the author's knowledge, existing literature has not assembled, since prior work treats alliance formation, embedded finance and customer journey design largely as separate streams.
