Is the armed uprising of the Zapatista National Liberation Army (EZLN for Ejercito Zapatista de Liberacion National) in the Mexican state of Chiapas just another protest by the wretched of the earth in a 500 year history of resistance? Is it just another foredoomed repetition of earlier, failed Leninist attempts to organize the peasantry to join the party and smash the state. Or, are there things about the uprising which are going to have profound effects and can teach us something about how to struggle in the present period?
