Korean language education deals with the expression of their feelings and thoughts and the formation of friendly interpersonal relationships by using language, so it is more likely to integrate with Social and Emotional Learning. The purpose of this study is to develop of an integrated instructional model of Korean language for cultivating Social and Emotional Competence of Elementary students. The research process is as follows. First, Social and Emotional strategies and programs are examined. Second, strategies and programs of Korean language education are examined. Third, the first instructional model are created. Forth, the expert review is executed, and the model are modified for external validation. Fifth, the instructional model is applied to grade 6 students and revised by the feedback from students and teachers for internal validation. Sixth, the revised model is finally completed. As a result of the study, the five stages of the model and specific action strategies based on the stages is developed. The stages of developed instructional model are ‘Reading literature with heart-Sharing literature with heart-Growing Character’s life-Growing my life-Mind growth’, and five components of social and emotional competence(self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, responsible decision-making) can be improved through each stage. This study will provide necessary implications for social and emotional learning to be implemented in school continuously and stably.
