In the article, the author examines the role and features of the media center in a modern educational organization. The purpose of the article is to identify the importance of the media center in higher education institutions and its role in media education. The importance of the article is due to the need to analyze the experience and present the most effective practices of organizing student media centers, created for specific local tasks (events or work with a narrow audience), as well as more global ones (work with university applicants). The practical significance is determined by the fact that the student media center is a platform for obtaining the necessary journalistic skills and communication competencies, self–realization, as well as the opportunity to practice within the framework of an adult equivalent of the press center from the very first years of student life. This is an independent structure that allows you to try yourself in different roles and determine your preferences in junior courses, so that you can continue your practice in adult organizations on the one hand, and contribute to solving serious problems of media support for events and policies of the educational organization as a whole.
