Experiences and Lessons Learned in the Implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster and Risk Reduction - 10 Years Since Adoption

pOn March 18, 2015, the Member States of the United Nations (UN) adopted the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015ndash;2030 (United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, 2015) in Sendai, Japan. The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction was the first major agreement of the post-2015 development agenda and provides Member States with concrete actions to protect development gains from disaster risks. The implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction is crucial for building resilient cities. The purpose of this paper is to review the current status and experiences of implementing the Sendai Framework in various countries, ten years after its adoption. Additionally, special focus will be placed on Goal D, which relates to reducing disaster damage to critical infrastructure and disruptions to essential services such as health, education, water supply, electricity supply, and others./p
