The article is devoted to the analysis of artistic means of visualizing the image of war in modern Ukrainian poetry based on the material of the anthology "With Faith in Victory" (Kharkiv: Maidan, 2024), while considering the peculiarities of the formation of the poetic picture of the authors' world. The article examines how the theme of death as the inevitability of moral choice manifests itself in the existential theater of human life, and analyzes the figurative and semantic means of idealizing the lyrical hero, which has traditionally been characteristic of poetic works on the theme of war. The authors' attempts to interpret today's events through the prism of significant events of the past, the search for means of primary and secondary nomination for visualizing the artistic image of war in the visual range of certain events of the present and the past, have also been considered. The conducted research made it possible to observe how, through the layering of connotational components of the artistic image, the interweaving of associations and allusions, the author manages to convey to the reader historical, cultural, mythological, and religious content encoded in the archetypal images. In the article, the visualization of the image of war is considered as a phenomenon of an anti-human, transcendental nature. In the works of front-line poets, it is carried out in a wide range of figurative means from demonization to routinization. The research showed that it is natural for many texts on the topic of war to use understated vocabulary and attempt to achieve its visualization within the framework of the aesthetics of the ugly. As a result of the analysis, it was found that individual poems or individual poetic fragments of the anthology are characterized by the principle of artistic escapism, that is, escape from the real world of cruelty, injustice, and ugliness into the world of beauty, harmony, and goodness, which the author creates using the means of primary and secondary nomination, explicit and implicit expression. The authors of the anthology attain high artistic mastery, striving to create plastic images, skillfully using the system of comparisons, repetitions and other means of secondary nomination. The article also shows how archetypal images based on mythological, folklore, and biblical themes enable the creation of an ethical and aesthetic ideal (or its antipode) in poetry. The conducted research helps to reveal the ethical and aesthetic potential of poetry in the context of the formation of universal human values.
