Abstract The International Commission on Occupational Health (ICOH) is the most ancient and largest professional association in the field of occupational health. ICOH is also a NGO recognized by the United Nations and in official working relation with WHO and ILO. The collaboration between WHO and ICOH is based on a triennial workplan that is agreed among the WHO Technical Officer and the ICOH Officers. The ICOH Secretary General is the liaison person for this collaboration. The workplan includes collaboration activities related to occupational and environmental hazards (e.g. extreme weather conditions, heat / cold, air pollution, solar radiation) for vulnerable populations; prevention and control of the most common occupational cancers; prevention and control of occupational chronic respiratory diseases; and, protecting physical and mental health and safety of health workers and emergency responders. Based on the activities agreed in the Collaboration Plan, ICOH can contribute to raising awareness on occupational health and workplace health by preparing statements and submitting comments to draft documents, and by participating in relevant meetings as a representative of Civil Society organizations.
