The article analyzes the current situation of using the case study method in teaching National Defense - Security Education in high schools in Ho Chi Minh City. The results of a random survey of 50 teachers and 200 students at three high schools in Ho Chi Minh City showed that the case study method has been introduced and applied, but to a limited extent, with an average score of 3.19 Students showed a quite positive attitude in class with an average score from 3.26 to 3.69. The results of interviewing 9 teachers teaching National Defense - Security Education showed the disadvantages of the case study method: it increases the workload of teachers, requires deep professional experience and understanding of practical issues related to the field of national defense and security; students spend a lot of time thinking to solve situations and draw out the necessary knowledge. From these results, the article proposes some measures to overcome the shortcomings and improve the effectiveness of using the case study method in practice.
