It is my great pleasure to welcome all participants of the 19th edition of the European Dependable Computing Conference, EDCC 2024 to Leuven, Belgium.Leuven is the capital of the province of Flemish Brabant, only a stone's throw away from Brussels, and it is world-famous for two things. It hosts the headquarters of the world's largest beer brewer, brewing since 1366.And it hosts the University of Leuven, since 1425, the oldest university in the Low Countries.During the conference, you will taste a bit of both the beer and the university, close the UNESCO world heritage sites of the Saint Peter's Chuch or the Large Beguinage.Indeed, since the pandemic, we started to re-appreciate the role of conferences, to spread knowledge, but, more importantly, to reconnect people in our knowledge domain. The Conference Venue is located in the green Arenberg castle park, home to the faculty of Engineering Sciences. On the campus, the electrical engineering department hosts about 500+ researchers. One of its excellent research groups is ELECTA, electrical energy systems and applications, which has a long tradition of distributed control, recently often focusing on dependability in smart grid applications.Electa has about 100 staff members, among which 10 professors and 60+ PhD students on 3 campuses and is a founding member of the research centre EnergyVille, which plays a major role in the much-needed energy transition. The European Dependable Computing Conference is the leading European venue for presenting and discussing the latest research, industrial practice, and innovations in dependable and secure computing, with a long tradition starting in 1994.Its aim and scope cover a broad range, starting from critical systems and infrastructures to cyber-physical systems, networks, large scale distributed computers, and the internet of things, in all of which dependability and security are central topics. This year the program is particularly exciting, featuring 3 keynotes, 4 workshops, multiple technical sessions covering key topics in dependability and security fields, as well as student forum and fast abstracts tracks for discussing current trends in different more theoretical or more application-oriented domains.
