Abstract Background Among patients who undergo bariatric surgeries, reproductive-aged women represent a substantial proportion. Gall bladder diseases has higher incidence post bariatric surgeries for many reasons. Pregnancy alone increases the risk of gall bladder disease. The impact of pregnancy on incidence of gallstone disease after bariatric procedures has not been reported. Objectives To detect the effect of pregnancy on incidence of gall bladder disease in patients who underwent bariatric surgeries. Methods An observational prospective study of women in reproductive age (18–45 yrs) who underwent bariatric surgeries and comparing incidence of gall bladder diseases between who got pregnant and who didn’t. Results All women of childbearing age who underwent bariatric surgery during 3 years were included. The patients who got pregnant were recorded. All patients who experienced gall bladder diseases were recorded. Comparing to those who did not get pregnant, the incidence of gall bladder disease in those who got pregnant was higher. The incidence between those who underwent sleeve gastrectomy and one anastomosis gastric bypass was compared. Conclusion Pregnancy increases the risk of cholecystectomy after bariatric surgeries, so this should be put in consideration before undergoing bariatric surgeries.
