The existing growth in the focus on sustainable mobility has illuminated the necessity to question the behavioral antecedents of electric vehicle (EV) adoption, especially in the framework of the emerging economies. This question focuses on the issue of environmental consciousness as a relevant predictor of EV adoption in Madhya Pradesh. Based on the primary data collected with 100 respondents, the study estimates the level of environmental cognizance of EV users, the level of ecological benefits in their opinion, and the correlation between environmental awareness, adoption behavior, future purchase intention, and recommendation propensity. By using quantitative methodologies (correlation and regression analyses), the proposed hypotheses are evaluated in the study in a rigorous manner. According to the empirical findings, environmental awareness has a statistically significant positive effect on EV adoption. In addition, the environment awareness is determined to have a significant influence on consumer satisfaction, purchase intentions, and recommendation intentions. The implication of these findings is that environmentally friendly consumers show a higher tendency to purchase and recommend electric vehicles. The study presents empirical studies on state level, which complements the available literature, but at the same time provides practical policy implications to strengthen the implementation of sustainable mobility solutions by region-specific solutions.
