This paper examines the planning and design process of Ben Thanh Station, the hub of Ho Chi Minh City’s Metro Line 1, supported by Japan’s ODA. Initially planned as a standalone station, it was restructured to accommodate future connections with Lines 2, 3A, and 4. Key features include advanced passenger flow simulations, fire safety plans integrating Japanese and Vietnamese standards, and symbolic design elements like a top light and atrium. Through flexible contract strategies and comprehensive design considerations, the project demonstrates how long-term planning and technical integration can enhance urban rail networks and provide valuable insights for international projects.
