This paper focuses on the effect of the ban on single-use plastic (SUP) on trade practices, consumer behavior, and environmental cleanliness in Coimbatore. Though the Indian government has enforced the Plastic Waste Management Rules and the state of Tamil Nadu has enforced tough rules banning the production, sale, and use of certain SUP products, the issue of enforcement remains. Even though people are aware of the ban on plastic, plastic usage still continues due to a lack of access to affordable alternatives. The results indicate that there are minimal differences between traders and consumers, as they have similar perceptions about plastic usage and the effectiveness of the ban on reducing pollution. There is a significant difference in the reduced usage of plastic bags in markets.
