Spatial Development Strategy of the Rusian Federation 2025 was adopted in 2019 at the Economic Development Ministry Initiative. It defines tasks, principles, priorities and main directions of Russian spatial development. Therefore, an analytical review of spatial models in economy, identification of existing problems and e development of recommendations and proposals on the further development of economy-based territorial organization is becoming relevant. This article identifies and briefly characterizes the main development pathways of spatial models in economy over the past two centuries – classical, multi-regional, Starrett’s Spatial Impossibility Theorem (Starrett), empirical (experimental) studies of uneven spatial development, continuous space, new economic geography, new urban economy, spatial econometrics , simulation modeling in economy, GIS application in spatial models used in economy. There is an attempt to structure spatial models in economy according to several parameters (time, direction of evolution, authors, space used, practical and theoretical results). The article also solves an applied problem based on the mathematical assessment of the region spatial value determination. The study includes open data from Internet resources, regulatory and industry documents, national development projects of the Russian Federation, and the results of the author’s research. The future research aspects are outlined as well.
