Corporate Social Responsibility Practices Among Multinational Corporations in Angola: A Survey Research

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has become a critical aspect of business operations globally, particularly in emerging markets like Angola where multinational corporations (MNCs) are increasingly active. A mixed-method approach was adopted, involving a quantitative survey followed by semi-structured interviews to gather comprehensive insights into CSR practices among MNCs in Angola. The sample included over 100 MNCs across various sectors operating in the country. The findings indicate that while approximately 85% of surveyed companies reported engaging in some form of CSR activity, there is a notable lack of uniformity in these practices, with environmental sustainability being the most prevalent theme (42%) followed by community development (37%). This study contributes to the existing literature on CSR in emerging markets by providing detailed insights into MNCs' CSR activities and highlighting areas where further guidance or regulation could be beneficial. Given the findings, recommendations include enhancing CSR training programmes for MNCs operating in Angola, promoting more consistent environmental initiatives, and encouraging broader community development projects to align with international standards.
