Cyclical vomiting syndrome (CVS) is a functional Gastrointestinal disorder characterized by recurrent episodes of severe nausea and vomiting without identifiable organic pathology. A 27-year-old male presented with cyclical episodes of severe vomiting (30–40 episodes/day), loss of appetite, postprandial vomiting, significant weight loss and occasional haematemesis. Despite receiving conventional treatment, the patient experienced recurrent episodes of cyclical vomiting leading to an approximate weight loss of 15 kg within one year. On Ayurvedic assessment, the patient was found to have Vata-Pittaja Sharirika Prakriti and Madhyama Satwa Manasika Pravritti and the condition was interpreted as Urdhwagata Amlapitta or a Nidanarthakara Roga resulting in Chardi. An individualized oral Ayurvedic treatment regimen aimed at Agni Deepana, Dosha Shamana and Chardi Nigrahana was administered for a period of 5½ months. Following treatment, the patient showed complete resolution of vomiting episodes, marked improvement in appetite and significant weight gain, with no recurrence during the follow-up period. Periodic follow up for 1 year was done after the duration of treatment. This case demonstrates the relevance of Ayurveda as a holistic and patient-centred approach in managing CVS by addressing underlying Dosha imbalance and digestive dysfunction, thereby offering sustained clinical improvement.
