In the teaching process of college physics courses in private applied universities, a series of problems have emerged, such as students not understanding the lectures, being unable to learn independently, not knowing how to do homework, failing exams, having improper learning attitudes, and developing a dislike for college physics courses. Based on the ETA (Experimental Physics, Theoretical Physics, Applying Physics) physics cognition model proposed by Professor Mu Liangzhu, this paper analyzes the causes of these problems. It introduces in detail the teaching reform measures and expected outcomes based on the ETA teaching method, which aims to cultivate students’ application abilities. These measures include optimizing teaching content and structure, innovating teaching methods and approaches, strengthening teacher-student interaction and feedback, and enhancing teacher training and support.
