Clinicopathologic Findings of Congenital Megalocornea in Three Blue‐Throated Conures ( Pyrrhura cruentata )
Key Points
To document the findings of congenital megalocornea in blue-throated conures and differentiate it from other ocular conditions.
Analysis of clinical and pathological findings in three blue-throated conures.
Identification of congenital megalocornea through examination of eye structure and function.
Comparison to cases of presumed buphthalmos and glaucoma.
Congenital megalocornea was identified as a key finding in all three conures.
Differential diagnosis includes buphthalmos due to glaucoma, requiring careful evaluation.
No prior documentation of congenital megalocornea in this species was found.
Abstract
This case series represents the first documented report of congenital megalocornea in blue-throated conures, which should be considered as a differential in birds with presumed buphthalmos from glaucoma.
