Urban Ghana is experiencing significant technological advancements, particularly in social media usage, which has implications for communication patterns among urban dwellers. The research employs ethnographic methods to gather data through participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis from a sample of urban dwellers in Accra. WhatsApp has emerged as the most popular platform for informal communication within households, with over 60% of respondents using it daily for personal interactions. Messenger is utilised more frequently (75%) for professional networking among young professionals. Social media platforms are reshaping how urban Ghanaians communicate, emphasising the importance of understanding these changes in contemporary cultural contexts. Communities and policymakers should consider integrating digital literacy programmes that address both benefits and challenges of social media use.
