This study examines the informal sector dynamics in arts and humanities within urban Somalia's context. This study employs a qualitative research approach, drawing insights from interviews with stakeholders in the arts sector and analysing existing policies related to informal sectors. A significant proportion (35%) of artists surveyed reported challenges such as lack of formal recognition and funding opportunities. The urban context highlighted distinct cultural practices that are crucial for social identity and economic survival. The findings underscore the need for tailored policy interventions addressing both structural barriers and innovative support mechanisms to enhance the resilience of the arts sector in Somalia's urban environment. Recommendations include the development of a dedicated fund for arts and humanities, alongside initiatives promoting formal recognition and market access for artists.
