By far the largest part of the historiographical literature on Sudan dealt with gold as a desirable resource, a bone of contention in changing political alliances. In this source essay, I will point out what aspects of technological configuration can be derived from these soures, and what blind spots need to be compensated for by looking at the existence of other than the politically exposed in the marginal notes of technographical documentation.
