Data Management Plans (DMPs) are a crucial element of good data management as they provide the description of its life cycle, following the FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable and re-usable) data principle. DMPs include information on: ● How the data will be handled (how it will be described, managed and stored) both during and after the end of the project; ● What data will be collected, processed and/or generated by the project; ● Which methodology and standards will be used; ● Whether data will be shared/made open access and; ● How data will be protected and preserved (including after the completion of the project). This document constitutes the initial version of the SUSTRACK Data Management Plan (DMP) and has been elaborated as deliverable (D) 7. 1 (due month 6 being the output of task (T) 7. 4) as part of the activities of Work Package (WP) 7 “Project Management” in the framework of SUSTRACK project. This initial version will work as a living document for the whole duration of the project, hence it will be updated and further elaborated to reflect developments to have an accurate and comprehensive plan at any time throughout the project. The final version of DMP will be delivered by the end of the project (M36). The structure has been drafted in line with the European Commission’s Data Management Plan Template1, with some additional information adapted to the particular characteristics of SUSTRACK. Based on the objectives and expected outcomes of SUSTRACK, it became evident that in order to generate meaningful insights to feed into the project while fuelling the co-creation and delivery of real demand-driven and evidence-based results, SUSTRACK entails several activities involving collection, production and processing of data. For Independent tasks, data should be stored after collection/generation and after processing. When processing it is mandatory to archive the SOP and keep the process traceability, e. g. which initial data has been processed, and which methods have been applied. Accordingly, the objective of this document is to collect, analyse and share the initial set up of rules for internal communication, and to have a common approach to how to gather, store and manage the data properly (metadata – such as date, author, affiliation, version, where, how, who, title, version, revisions, use and storage etc. ). This document includes the description of: ● Data types and how this data will be collected, processed, maintained and shared during and after the end of the project; ● FAIR data management; ● Data Security; ● Preferred repositories to archive published data ● Metadata and vocabulary ● Social, Ethical, Legal, and Privacy concerns.
