Estimation of lateral vibration of elevator ropes with natural frequencies close to those of buildings using displacement measured at a single point

In recent years, buildings have become taller and taller all over the world. In the event of an earthquake disaster, the natural frequencies of the elevator rope and the building are close to each other, resulting in large vibrations that limit the operation of the elevator. In this study, we propose a method for estimating the lateral vibration of an elevator rope when the natural frequencies of the elevator rope and the building are close to each other, in order to contribute to the early recovery of elevators that have been stopped. The method is based on modal decomposition of time history data acquired by a displacement sensor installed at the top of the rope and applying a band-pass filter to estimate the vibration behavior of the elevator rope during an earthquake. Numerical analysis results show that the estimation is possible with an error margin of approximately 10．
