It is necessary to sort out as thoroughly as possible the eighteenth-century editions of the Encyclopdie bearing theParis-Neufchastel imprint.The problem is far more complicated than has generally been realized; and because it is important when one is doing research in this work to know exactly which edition of each volume one has at hand, we intend to deal with the matter as fully as we can.
