This paper presents the performance analysis of an Intelligent Reflecting Surface (IRS) assisted wireless communication system using Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access (NOMA) and Orthogonal Multiple Access (OMA) techniques. The study focuses on enhancing the conventional passive IRS model by introducing active reflecting elements to improve signal strength and communication reliability. The system is analyzed for both uplink and downlink transmission scenarios over a range of Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) values. Key performance metrics such as Outage Probability (OP) and Ergodic Rate (ER) are evaluated using MATLAB simulations. The results demonstrate that the active IRS-assisted NOMA system significantly outperforms the conventional passive IRS model in terms of improved data rate and reduced outage probability. This work provides a practical simulation framework for analyzing IRS-based systems and can be extended for future wireless technologies such as beyond 5G and 6G networks.
