This analysis highlights the importance of elevating and strengthening humane housing as a Vital Condition for health within Granville and Vance Counties in North Carolina. Humane housing is a foundational determinant of population health and a core element of the Vital Conditions Framework. Persistent severe housing problems, including housing cost burden, disproportionately affect low-income renters across both counties, contributing to inequities in health and financial stability. The first recommendation focuses on building a sustainable infrastructure for coordinated leadership. The second recommendation focuses on improving housing oversight through better data transparency for community members in a public-facing housing data dashboard. The third recommendation formalizes renter and community engagement to support those directly affected by the housing system across both counties. Combined, these recommendations promote a humane housing system that is shaped by and responsive to those with lived experiences within the rental population.
